    General anatomical features of sharks

Sharks are characterized by a cartilaginous skeleton, five to seven gill slits on the sides of the head, and pectoral fins that are not fused to the head. Most sharks have eight fins: a pair of pectoral fins, a pair of pelvic fins, two dorsal fins, an anal fin, and a caudal fin.

    2.How it eats

Most sharks are carnivorous. Feeding methods include filter feeding, suction feeding and swallowing after trapping with gill rakers. They may feed on flesh sliced out of other larger fish, or swallow whole squid or fish. Some are cooperative feeders that hunt together.

    3.How it survives

Due to commercial and recreational fishing and threats include habitat alteration, damage and loss from coastal development, pollution and the impact of fisheries on the seabed and prey species, sharks are greatly endangered. They are only surviving through protection and other conservation methods like raising people's awareness not to consume shark's fin soup.
