    Going on

How are things going on with you? (你的事情繼續得怎樣?)

    go on 是繼續的意思,不同go(進行)。

How are things going with you?意思是你的事情進行得怎樣?

Your answer "How (are) things (go) on with you?" is definitely wrong in grammar.

How are things going with you ? (no need to use "on")

How are things going (with you)? is an informal way of greeting people. It will be weird and uncommon to say something like "how are things going on with you?", although it is grammatically correct.
