1.A light ray travelling from air into medium X,The angle of incidence is 50° and the angle of refraction is r.Another light ray travelling from medium X to air.The angle of incidence is 35° and the angle of refraction is also equal to r.What is angle r?

    When the light ray travels from air into the medium, using Snell's Law,

    sin(50)/sin(r) = n ---------------------- (1)

    where n is the refractive index of the medium

    When the light ray travels from the medium into air, the refractive index (from medium to air) is 1/n

    hence, sin(35)/sin(r) = 1/n

    i.e. sin(r)/sin(35) = n -------------------------- (2)

    Equating (1) and (2),

    sin(50)/sin(r) = sin(r)/sin(35)

    [sin(r)]^2 = sin(50) x sin(35)

    sin(r) = 0.663

    hencem r = 41.5 degrees
