Thank you for your reply.
The following is an excerpt from the back of the cover page of the ABRSM Examination Information & Regulations (International edition) 2009 regarding graded examinations for your consideration:
- Candidates may play pieces from the previous syllabus as follows:
UK & Republic of Ireland - until the end of Period A (spring exams) 2009 only
All other countries - until 31 December 2009
- All the pieces must be from the same syllabus - candidates may not perform a mixture of pieces from old and new syllabuses
Based on the above, candidates taking the ABRSM graded piano practical examinations in Hong Kong are allowed to play pieces in the 2008 ABRSM piano syllabus for their 2009 exams (i.e., April/May, Aug to mid Nov). They cannot mix pieces from the 2008 and 2009 syllabuses.
For more details (e.g., pieces, revised scales and sight-reading requirements, etc.) regarding the syllabus of the ABRSM graded piano practical exams in 2009, please visit the following web site:
Regarding your enquiry on the alternative pieces, according to the reply from the ABRSM, candidates can use any pieces from the 2007-8 syllabus throughout 2009 (subject to the above), including those that are not included in the ABRSM Selected Pieces books, i.e., the alternatives.
We hope the above is useful. If you need other information, please contact us at 3628 8721.
