請問以上為何不是 Had been ?

the company said it is no longer certain that it will have enough capital to

carry it through the losses it sees into 2009.

請問為什麼loss用losses ,因為不只一個年度loss?

１．先理解左第一句o既 tense 先。have been 係 present perfect tense，可以用於一件發生左o既事，而後果影響至今。

第一句意思係，舊年房地產跌價、按揭等問題，令佢地大受影響。呢個影響，可以係欠下一身債，而自去年至今佢地都受呢ｄ債所累，所以用 present perfect 係應該o既。

你諗用 had been，會唔會因為見到 last year？

had been 係 past perfect tense，用於兩件舊事一齊道出時，比較出時間關係：舊ｄo既一件用 past perfect，近ｄo既一件用 simple past。如：

They had been badly hurt by the declined home prices, but the economic upturn came just when they needed it.

２．何解一年一個 loss？

如果每年埋單計數，咁就係一個總虧損，一個 loss。

但如果每年有多個虧損o既項目，咁就可以用 losses。呢句意思就係咁。
