Q1: How to set passwords for excel file, so that nobody can open my excel file?? (I am now using Excel 2000.)

To set password for excel file against unauthorized access, please follow the steps set out below:-

    1. Select [File] from menu

    2. Select [Save as] to display [Save as...] dialogue

    3. Click [Tools] button at upper right corner

    4. Select [general options] to display [General option] dialogue

    5. Set your passwords to open and to modify Excel file respectively

    6. Click [OK], then save your file with decided name and path

Your file has been protected by password. Next time you open this file, you will be asked for password.

Q2: How to set excel file in the format of "read-only"?? (so that when other people can open the file only but cannot amend it!)

To set Excel file in read-only format, follow the steps set out below:-

    2. Select [Protect] then [Protect worksheet]
