Do you know the best way of learning English pronunciation?

I want to learn English pronunciation. Basically I have seen all the symbols of vowel, diphthong and consonant but I am bad at memorization.

Does anyone suggest learning English pronunciation? If you have learnt it, please you share your experiences with me.

Thanks a lot :)

    1. Learning pronunciation is not about memorizing. It's more like learning kung fu. You can't learn the decription of each move by heart; instead, you need to actually do it!

    As there are a few dozen symbols, you can't just recite. In teaching phonetics, we always start with vowels, IN PAIRS! For example,

    sit [

    ]

    hit [

    ]

    /i/ and /i:/ are easily comparable, one is short and the other is long. So learners can quickly FEEL the difference. And they read the words with just a small difference (the vowels) in pairs. These pairs of word are call minimal pairs. That's how you can remember better.

    Also, while you learn the symbols, pay close attention to the spellings. Try to look for patterns (the usually combinations that make those sounds). A fun (i don't know about you, I found it interesting

    ) way is to try finding as many words with the same combination as possible (help yourself by following the letters of the alphabet). For example,

    -ill: bill, fill, gill, hill, kill, mill, nil, pill, quill, sill, till, until, will

    To me, the most difficult period was correcting myself. I started learning these when I was Form 3/4. My pronunciation was OK, but I had already learnt quite a number of words the wrong way. So I had to consciously monitor my pronunciation. But that's a very effective learning process in itself, because you only remember better with constant revision.
