As you asked for the definitions of the Verbs, I try to provide all the meaning in "verb" form only.

    1) fished - to search, especially in difficult conditions:

Eg. She fished in her tool box for the right spanner.

    2) dodged - to avoid being hit by something by moving quickly to one side:

Eg. He dodged to avoid the hurtling bicycle.

    3) Still - to make something stop moving or become more calm:

Eg. He tried to still the swaying of the hammock.

Stiff - to become firm or more difficult to bend:

Eg. Beat the cream until it begins to stiffen (= become firm).

    4) bustling - to do things in a hurried and busy way

    5) Edging - to move slowly with gradual movements or in gradual stages, or to make someone or something move in this way.

Eg. A long line of traffic edged its way forward.

    6) pokes - to push a finger or other pointed object quickly into someone or something:

Eg. You'll poke someone in the eye with that umbrella if you're not careful!

    7) staring - to look for a long time with the eyes wide open, especially when surprised, frightened or thinking.

Eg. Don't stare at people like that, it's rude.

    8) triumphant - IS NOT A VERB , it's an adjective - having achieved a great victory or success, or feeling very happy and proud because of such an achievement.

    9) notice - to see or become aware of something or someone:

Eg. I noticed a crack in the ceiling.

    10) stammer - to speak or say something with unusual pauses or repeated sounds, either because of speech problems or because of fear and anxiety.

    11) sternly - IS AN ADVERB, NOT A VERB - sternly (adverb) = in a way that shows disapproval:

Eg. "This kind of behaviour is not acceptable, " said the teacher sternly.

    12) snapped - to cause something which is thin to break suddenly and quickly with a cracking sound.

Eg. You'll snap that ruler if you bend it too far.

    13) hissed - to make a noise which is like the first sound in the word 'sing' but which lasts a lot longer:

    Eg. Why do snakes hiss?

    14) shrieked - scream

Eg. We shrieked with laughter when we realized how stupid we'd been.

    15) whispered - is to speak softly.

    I hope it helps.
