My mother bore me in the southern wild,

And I am black, but O! my soul is white.

White as an angel is the English child:

But I am black as if bereav'd of light.

My mother taught me underneath a tree

And sitting down before the heat of day.

She took me on her lap and kissed me,

And pointing to the east began to say.

Look on the rising sun: there God does live

And gives his light, and gives his heat away.

And flowers and trees and beasts and men receive

Comfort in morning joy in the noon day.

And we are put on earth a little space..

That we may learn to bear the beams of love.

And these black bodies and this sun-burnt face

Is but a cloud, and like a shady grove.

For when our souls have learn'd the heat to bear

The cloud will vanish we shall hear his voice.

Saying: come out from the grove my love & care.

And round my golden tent like lambs rejoice.

Thus did my mother say and kissed me.

And thus I say to little English boy.

When I from black and he from white cloud free,

And round the tent of God like lambs we joy:

Ill shade him from the heat till he can bear,

To lean in joy upon our fathers knee.

And then I'll stand and stroke his silver hair,

And be like him and he will then love me

I'm P.5, and i wrote this myself, so i dont kno if this is the right standard for you.

(THis is a parody of 'Twas a Night Before christmas')

Title: The Doctor's Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, when in the operation room,

The doctor was waiting, hoping his patient wasn't doomed.

THe oxygen mask put on the patient's face with care,

In hopes that the echocardiogram's beat would soon be there.

The other patients were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of going home danced in their heads,

And the doctor in his kerchief, hands poised on his lap,

Hoped the patint would recover, and give him a nap.

When there the patient's eyelids opened just a flicker,

The doctor quickly arose to see what was the matter,

Away to the patient he flew like a flash,

Looked at the echo, and checked the wounded gash.

The sight of the patient gave hopes to the doctor,

As he treated the patient with hands so tender.

When, what to his wondering eyes should appear,

But the beats on the echo, getting more and more clear.

With a second that passed so lively and quick,

The doctor knew that this was no trick.

More peaceful than heaven the beats they came,

The doctor was so excited he called his tools by name!

"Now needle, now suture, now scissor and knife!

On forcep, on needle holder, and my god, he's alive!

To the top of the world, to the top of the ceiling,

Your parents will scream when they see you, my darling!"

When the patient awoke he was surprised to see,

The doctor at his feet was dancing happily!

So up the healed patient also danced on the bed,

Dancing as happy as the doctor had said!

And then, in a twinkling, the patient heard something was ringing,

And there, on the door, stood St. Nicholas with bells jingling!

    The patient was supremely overjoyed,

And was even more to receive a doll and a toy!

And then St. Nicholas blew him a kiss,

Which made the patient feel so bliss.

St. Nicholas then walked out of the door,

And out onto the streets and across the moor.
