The main advantage : "RESOURCES SHARING"
This is also the purpose of "Networking"
You may break down into four: (if you really need four)
- Internet connectivity sharing
- Common file or data sharing
- Utilities sharing (eg. sharing Printer, Scanner, etc)
- Application sharing (eg. login to an Intranet)
Sorry, "Security" is a Disadvantage rather than a Advantage for connecting computer by network. If computers are connected into a network, each desktop or workstation has to be installed with some security software to protect itself. Agree?
In Banking Industries, important internal data will be isolated from their main networok. Security is the reason behind.
Also, sharing resource would definitely lower the performance, but the impact is not that noticable due to the high speed of nowadays hardware. Therefore "Faster" is not the advantage of networking. For example, when you share a broadband with other computers, the speed of the accessing internet would surely lower than you use the broadband alone. Agree?
Thanks. Hope it helps!
