This really depence on the ticket condition... As I have travel on Cathay Pacific flights with 20kg and other time with 32kg on the same route... So I would advice you to contact Cathay Pacific for a quote of the ticket condition of your sub-class as it could vary even on the same route...
However, what somebody above said 34kg is competely wrong... This is because each piece of check-in luggage is restricted to a maximum of 32kg weight... This is because of the health and safety for baggage handler, airlines are not allow to accept any single piece of check-in luggage which weight over 32kg...
In my experience, if you have very few hand carry luggage, they will allow you to go a little over... In some of my case, my suitcase weighted 32kg while my allowance was only 25kg, but when they looked that I only got one small bag for hand carry, they let me through without penity...
Of course, if your luggage is over the limit, it is not a must that the check-in staff allow you a little extra... They have the right to charge you penity for it, but usually they are OK as long as it is not too much over weight...
For Cathay Pacific, the penity vary between destinations, origins and routes... And I would suggest you to call Cathay Pacific office for a quote of price for over-weight luggages...

it's not about the destination (australia, usa....)!!!!
but the airline, your class of ticket, any frequent flyer membership, and the loading of the flight!!
therefore, what 34kg is totally unreliable and the excess of 2-3kg is case by case.
