physics problem !!!Urgent!!
a raw egg is thrown as hard as possibke against a bed sheet backrop. the egg does not break when it hits the sheet, but the egg does break when it hits the floor below.
explain on the basis of physical principles, and detail!!!!

First of all, when to egg hits either a bed sheet of the floor, it is brought to an deceleration which may eventually bring it to rest. So by Newton's first law, an external force must act on the egg to achieve the deceleration and its magnitude is proportional to the magnitude of deceleration.
Upon hitting a beg sheet, due to its elasticity, it can act as a buffer for the egg's motion by elongating the time of deceleration which efectively reduces the magnitude of deceleration (by the relation deceleration = change in velocity / time elapsed) and hence the force on the egg. And so the egg does not break.
However, when the egg hits the floor, since the floor is hard and rigid and does not have elasticity at all, the time of deceleration is much shorter than the first case and so the magnitude of deceleration and force will be much bigger. Hence the egg breaks.
