I would like to know whether the passport will give me back within next week (if i could apply successfully),

as I am going to apply tomorrow.

you mean immigration visa?

You won't get your immigration visa the day after you submit your application.

it's a lengthy process, it takes year. First, you need to submit your application, then wait for the responds from INS and fill in additional documents. Plus, your spomsor has to submit theor tax return, things liek that.

As of Oct, 2006, the U.S. consulate was workin on those immigration application submitted in June 1997.

Assuming your petition is open and an interview is scheduled, they will mail your passport via Hong Kong Post, it takes two to four day for delivery. You have to pay $25 postage upfront.

depends on what kind of visa you are applying. If it's a tourist/business visa, you'll know within the same day and the passport will be mailed back to you by registered mail in just a few days.
