The Panopticon is a type of prison building designed by English philosopher Jeremy Bentham in the late eighteenth century. The concept of the design is to allow an observer to observe (-opticon) all (pan-) prisoners without the prisoners being able to tell if they are being observed or not, thus conveying a "sentiment of an invisible omniscience." In his own words, Bentham described the Panopticon as "a new mode of obtaining power of mind over mind, in a quantity hitherto without example.".....

You can read about the section "Conceptual history" in the given link, then you will know how this kind of architecture "define" and "delimit" mens life.

Very interesting topic indeed. I imagine your teacher is quuite unusual : )

Panoptic is a form of prisoner construction. Fields of actions = space that prisoners can use within the construction. options = things that prisoners can do within the contruction.

I guess the purpose of your assignement is to make you think about how "spacing" can limit "human activities". Follow on that theme in your writing and you should score high.

Your teacher looks at the space from a USER potint of view, while I looked from an ARCHITECTURAL point of view, as I stated clearly from the very beginning. Of course it is your teacher's assignment so he has the final say. It does not mean that I am wrong.
